Volleyball Physiotherapy

Specialized physiotherapy for volleyball players focusing on shoulder, knee, and ankle health—enhancing recovery, preventing injury, and supporting peak performance.

An Athlete’s Path to Physiotherapy

As a former varsity volleyball athlete at the University of Alberta Augustana Campus, Brendan knows firsthand the challenges of sports injuries. While earning his Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, he transitioned from player to strength and conditioning coach, leading the volleyball team to an ACAC championship win in 2015. He also coached U15-U18 club volleyball and worked with Volleyball Alberta’s developmental programs, further deepening his understanding of athletic performance and rehabilitation.

Following his undergraduate studies, Brendan began his career as a kinesiologist, using exercise-based rehab to help patients recover from injuries. His passion for rehabilitation led him to pursue a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy (with distinction) at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, Scotland. While completing his dissertation on patellar tendon loading programming, he continued his love for sports, playing on the university’s men’s basketball team and Edinburgh’s traveling hockey team.

A Global Approach to Physiotherapy

After earning his master’s, Brendan gained valuable experience working in a neurological rehabilitation ward, treating patients recovering from traumatic brain injuries, strokes, and cognitive impairments. This role gave him a deeper appreciation for patient-centered care, which he integrates into his sports and orthopedic physiotherapy practice today.

Upon returning to Edmonton, Brendan shifted his focus back to his athletic roots, working in sports therapy clinics to help athletes of all levels recover, prevent injuries, and return to peak performance. His international training experience in both Canada and the United Kingdom has shaped his holistic, evidence-based approach to physiotherapy.
